Find a Teacher in the Online Registry

The Teachers Act is based on two foundational principles: the paramount nature of the public interest and transparency. Under the Act, the Director of Certification must maintain an online registry that provides particular information about certificate holders and people who hold a letter of permission to teach.

You can search the Online Registry to verify whether someone currently holds a BC Ministry of Education teaching certificate or Letter of Permission. Please enter the person's Last Name and/or Given Name(s) and then click Search. The registry will display a list of any educators that matches your search criteria, including the status of their certificate or Letter of Permission and any public record of disciplinary action, if such a record exists.

If you cannot find the person you are looking for, there may be other reasons:

  • the name you entered may have been spelled incorrectly,
  • the name you entered may not be the person's legal name, or
  • the person may not currently hold a teaching certificate or Letter of Permission, i.e. cancelled for not paying the annual practice fee, cancelled for not authorizing a five-year criminal record check, or voluntary relinquishing his/her certificate,
  • the person is still in the process of applying for a teaching certificate or Letter of Permission, or
  • *a discipline record occurred prior to 2007.

*Under the former Teaching Profession Act, disciplinary records made prior to July 1, 2007, were not available via an online registry. If you are unable to find a former certificate holder here, you may wish to browse the archived discipline outcomes.
