Commissioner for Teacher Regulation

The Commissioner for Teacher Regulation is an independent statutory decision maker appointed under the Teachers Act by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Education. The Commissioner oversees the discipline process for educators (certificate holders and letter of permission holders) in both the public and independent school systems in the province in accordance with the Act. The Commissioner has the authority to receive complaints and reports – from both inside and outside the school system – and where applicable, to order investigations. When a complaint or report results in a hearing, the Commissioner appoints a panel to conduct a discipline hearing.

The Commissioner can be appointed for a term of up to five years. More information about the Commissioner can be found under the Commissioner's Office.
