Fee Information for an Independent School Teaching Certificate

You must pay a non-refundable application fee to begin the application process. If you are eligible for a certificate, you will also need to pay your annual fee to receive your certificate.

Non-refundable application fee

Please include your payment of $245 with your application form. We cannot create a file for you until the application fee is paid.

Annual fee

You must also pay an annual fee to receive your certificate. Once you are a certified teacher, you will need to pay the annual fee by May 31 each year to maintain a valid certificate. Please note that independent school authorities are required to deduct the practice fee from the certificate holders they employ. For the first year that you are a certified independent school teacher, you pay a pro-rated fee based on when you become a certified teacher. We will not issue your certificate until you have paid this fee.

* Includes $40 pro-rated fee for the remainder of the current school year plus the full $80 annual fee for the following school year.

If you qualify for a certificate, we will notify you in writing to tell you how much you must pay for your annual fee.

Payment Options

You can pay by personal cheque, money order or bank draft payable to the Minister of Finance and send it to the Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education.

You can also pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express by completing the credit card authorization form found in the Application Package for an Independent School Teaching Certificate. Please note: credit card data should be not emailed.
