BC Offshore Schools
The certification, regulation and discipline of teachers formerly carried out by
the BC College of Teachers (BCCT) and the Office of the Inspector of Independent
Schools (OIIS) have been assumed by the Ministry of Education as part of the new
Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB).
As a result of the new Teachers Act and changes in the regulation of the
BC Offshore Program, new certification requirements have been established for teachers
in BC Offshore Schools.
- As of June 30, 2012, all teachers employed in BC Offshore Schools must hold
either a valid BC Certificate of Qualification (COQ) or Letter of Permission (LOP)
issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch.
- As of September 1, 2013, all teachers employed in BC Offshore Schools must
hold valid BC Certificates of Qualification (COQ).
Independent School Teaching Certificates (ISTC) and Letters of Authorization (LOA)
are no longer valid for teaching in BC Offshore Schools. All teachers who are employed
to teach in an BC Offshore School and who currently hold an ISTC or LOA must apply
for a Certificate of Qualification.
